TRAINING:

We train every Wednesday night (except the Christmas school holidays) at the John Moroney Correction Centre, Northern Road, South Windsor.

Beginners: are welcome on the first \Wednesday of the month, commencing at 6:45pm. Our introductory class is for 4 weeks. In that time you learn some of the obstacles and some of the basic handling manoeuvres. We teach you how to use positive reinforcement so the dog enjoys doing what you want him to do. This method is proven to work whether it is to train your dog to jump through a hoop or to teach him to come to you when you walk in the park.

If you are interested in enrolling in our beginner classes, then contact our Chief Instructor, Keith Edwards by email at caninefunsports@westnet.com.au

Intermediate handlers: After successful introductory classes you graduate to our RED class, and then to our BLUE class. These classes also start at 6:45pm.

Advanced handlers: start their SILVER class at 7:45pm. Hawkesbury club has many successful triallers at all levels of competition. If you are interested in joining our successful group then contact our chief instructor, Keith Edwards, for more details.

Visitors: are welcome to training nights at Hawkesbury Dog Agility Club. We recognise that up and coming agility trialling dogs need to be familiarised with different equipment. Visitors should arrive at 7:45pm at the latest and report to our duty desk. Handlers must be either a member of Dogs NSW or a member of one of its affiliates. Dogs must have been vaccinated within the previous 12 months.

ALL HANDLERS MUST AGREE TO

ABIDE BY OUR GROUND RULES

CLUB EVENTS & TRIALS:
Our club is a very small but enthusiastic group of dog owners who love to participate with their dogs. As well as our regular Wednesday night training classes we hold regular trials, meetings and demonstration days.

Weekend Trials: We hold three major trials during the year: in Feb (our dusk to dawn trial), August and November. We are trying to keep this website up to date with schedules of each trial but most schedules are also published in the Dogs NSW journal.

We like to consider ourselves an innovative club and this is seen in our trialling schedule. We are the only club in NSW to hold a dusk to dawn trial – sure you need a little stamina, but the dogs are just like little kids being able to stay up past their bed – it is all a lot of fun. You can find the schedule by clicking here:

Dusk to Dawn 2010

For more details, information on classes to be judged or how to enter one of these trials, then email us at caninefunsports@westnet.com.au and clearly mark the subject as HDAC d2d trial.

Our Tuesday night trials are held on the first Tuesday of the months of  Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec at The Bill Spilstead Complex for Canine Affairs, 44 Luddenham Road, Erskine Park NSW, starting at 7pm.You can find the schedule by clicking here:

Tuesday Night Trails 2010

For more details, information on classes to be judged or how to enter one of these trials, then email us at caninefunsports@westnet.com.au and clearly mark the subject as HDAC Tuesday night trials.

Hawkesbury Dog Agility Club is also the only club to hold night trials during the week. It is a simple one event / one judge trial designed to encourage those enthusiasts that have other commitments on weekends – or for the true addicts that get their agility fix as often as they can or people who have to take their human kids out to sport on the weekends. The dogs often run better, and faster at night which all adds to the excitement and enthusiasm.

Hawkesbury was also the first to award extra prizes for dogs in separate height categories. Now, all our trials run with the different height categories competing separately. We like to do our best to encourage every-one to participate in our sport. Reaching a level of excellence (as demonstrated by qualifying at our trials) should be recognised as being more important for many competitors than winning first place. And even if we do not qualify, we like to encourage our participants to recognise their improvements and their achievements with each trial.

Club Meeting are held on the second Monday of the even months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec) at the Richmond Worker’s Club, March Street, Richmond, commencing at 7:30pm. We would like to encourage all our members to come along to our meetings to help us to run our club. More people gives us more ideas, and this in turn creates a better club. At these meeting we make decisions about things like judges for our trials, how to organise our training nights, demonstrations days, trophies and other encouragement awards to be awarded. We also discuss participation in other events such as seminars and training days and fundraising schemes.  Come along and make your contribution.

Demonstration Days: Our club members are involved in agility demonstrations throughout the year, including performing at The Sydney Royal Easter Show and events local to the Hawkesbury area. These days are always great days for the whole family. We get to show off, and to laugh at ourselves and to participate in these community events.

Our Christmas Party: each year is a big event. We give out our bronze, silver and gold medallions to dogs who have gained titles during the year, and our many other club awards. Remember, we are a positive reinforcement club, so we like to reward our members who make contributions to the club, as well as our members who are successful in the training arena. Click here to see our past winners.

CLUB COMPETITIONS:

Each year the club holds competitions open to all members’ dogs from each of the Blue, Silver and Gold classes. A test, or mini-trial is held once a month, to based on training exercises throughout that month. Trophies are awarded at the end of the year (at our Christmas party) for the winners. Click here to see our previous winners.

CLUB NEWSLETTER:

Our newsletter is published at least 4 times a year. This will help you keep in touch with all our activities, and keeps you up to date with the various successes of our club members at the trialling level. We try to include a few handling tips, and a laugh or too. And, of course, we always welcome contributions from our club members.
