ABOUT CANINE FUN SPORTS

Canine Fun Sports is about having lots of fun with your dog. We specialise in agility training - that is teaching our dogs to do jumps, hoops, tunnels, dog walks and scrambles. Many of our students go on to compete very successfully in agility. But equally, many people who do not want to compete, find it a great way to build a co-operative bond with their dog, which carries through to general household living. Their dog will now come when called, even when excited. And because we are stimulating our dogs' intelligence, they are less likely to be destructive at home (NO PROMISES ABOUT THAT!) Shy dogs can build confidence. And wild dogs learn control.

The absolute reason for the existence of Canine Fun Sports is for everyone involved to have fun with their dogs. This creates the stronger bond with our canine partners so that we enjoy that partnership even more. We started with just fun classes, but then became involved with competitive agility. We now run classes "just for fun" and for "competitive fun".

We not only teach our students how to negotiate these obstacles - an achievement in itself, but  our "competitive fun" classes are aimed at improving handling techniques, improving obstacle performance and maximizing your chance of doing your best - this might be in competitive agility, or it might be just knowing, yourself, that you have achieved your best. Some will be winners and gain lots of agility titles. Others will just have fun by their participation.

Canine Fun Sports is for anyone and their dog - all breeds and combinations. We have students from 12 years old to 80 years young. We  have people there just for fun and some of them get bitten by the trialling bug. We also have the serious competitors, some of whom have gone as far as representing our state in National Competition.

Look at our agility page to see what agility competition is all about.

We started Canine Fun Sports in 1995 with a foundation group of about 6 dogs. We promoted ourselves to instructors, without much experience ourselves, but we put the hard work in to develop our skills, using books, common sense as well as some trial and error.   Initially, we were just having fun with our dogs and our greatest fun was thinking up all sorts of different equipment. Our skills developed and some-one suggested we should see what agility is all about. We saw and then quickly became involved in competitive agility training. It was a short step to start competing and we were bitten by the addictive agility bug. Keith and Le are now involved in agility, pretty much full time. Luckily, it seems to be an addiction with very few side effects!

Our training sessions are organised with safety and fun in mind. We have veterinary supervision. We are keeping class sizes small, giving everyone maximum time on the obstacles and sequences. And we are there to help you and your dog to succeed at the challenges we set for you.

THE FLYING FUNDOG TROPHY

Canine Fun Sports first put up the Flying Fundog Trophy as an incentive for the handlers of breeds that are not considered to be the usual top winning agility breeds. As gundog enthusiasts, we decided to put forward the trophy for the best Gundog, especially since we could make a nice play with words as gundogs being fundogs. We awarded the trophy for the first time at the 2006 National Agility Trial in NSW and plan to donate a trophy at each National Trial, assuming the organisers are willing to accept the trophy.

Click the photo of the inaugural award to see the winners.

Our thanks must also go to Helen and Noel Evans who make these beautiful trophies.
